Lesley Strathie, CEO of HMRC has informed staff in 130 offices that closures and redundancies on planned in 2010/11.
Some offices will remain open as enquiry centres but more than half of the present staff will have to relocate to be redeployed elsewhere, or accept redundancy.
The staff who are affected are quite naturally extremely upset, judging by postings on Ken Frosts' blog.
