It is being reported that Justice Secretary, Robert Buckland has said that plans to introduce a new probate fee banding structure, originally proposed in 2017 but delayed then revived in 2018, have been dropped altogether as the policy is not 'fair and proportionate'.

The proposed changes, which had already been revised downwards from original plans for a sliding scale of fees up to £20,000, would have seen fee increases of up to £6,000 from the current level of £155. It is understood that instead the level of fees will be considered at the next annual wider review of court fees but in the meantime will remain unchanged.
