Following the scrapping of this year’s main budget statement due to the general election, the two main parties have both stated their intention to hold the next budget in February 2020.

The main budget moved to the Autumn/Winter from the Spring in 2017. The current chancellor had planned to hold his first budget on 6 November 2019, but the general election caused him to change his plans.

Both the Conservatives and the Labour party have now said that if they are elected they will hold a budget in February 2020, with Labour suggesting a date of 5 February. Assuming the Tories went for a similar date this would mean that by the time budget day arrives we will have gone around 464 days without a full fiscal event as the last Budget was on 29 October 2018.
