Being rather ill throughout covid19 as a lot of others, the last I heard about self employment grant scheme was that "if you're eligible we'll contact you, you do not have to do anything" 100% confident I was eligible I waited patiently to be contacted by HMRC. To my dismay, I decided to chase them up, only too late. I had missed the deadline to ammend my 2018-19 tax return. I did not even know there was an error on the return until the advisor contacted me a week after my request for review of ineligibity. I then ammended but it was too late. The self employment history was stated in full on the original return, but in the EMPLOYED section. They now realise they over paid me by £900 that year, and expect it back understandably, but refuse to pardon my late ammendment due to coronavirus illness. How can I appeal and do I have a chance?
