HMRC staff say that they have been deluged by phone calls, following the issue of wrong tax codes for 2010/11 as a result of using out-of-date information.
- The good news is that a coding error can easily be corrected by making a phone call to the tax office that issued the code.
- The bad news is that this takes you via the automated switchboard, so you may experience delays in calling.
Tax agents - allow 30 to 45 minutes per client for call time and disruption.
HMRC - was this is the department's budget?
