At the end of this month chancellor Sajid Javid cancelled the 2019 Budget which was due to be held on 6 November. Then parliament agreed to early General Election.

  • The EU has granted the UK a Brexit extension until 31 January 2020.
  • The government declined to debate the terms of Prime Minister (PM) Boris Johnson's Brexit withdrawal bill, as they do not have a majority to overrule any changes that MPs of other parties may wish to make.
  • The PM has requested a general election in an effort to gain a majority: this was accepted by the other polical parties.

There is no time left in 2019 for a budget.
