The Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) has published the first complete list of tax reliefs found in the UK's tax system; it identifies 1042.
The OTS is examining ways of simplifying the tax system and has set itself the task of reviewing tax reliefs. It is also looking into IR35.
Observers say that some of the reliefs identified are not reliefs but lower tax rates. It may be largely a question of semantics; no doubt the OTS will be aiming for a substantial cull.
