HMRC have introduced a new online service for appealing against late filing penalties for 2015/16 tax returns.

The service only covers late filing of 2015/16 self assessment returns: you will still need to file a postal form to appeal penalties for earlier years or for late payment of tax.

You will need a Government Gateway ID to use the service.

At present the service is not available to agents, but we understand the taxbodies CIOT and ATT and the ICAEW are making representations to HMRC on this point.
